things to do: All
Dolbadarn Castle, Llanberis

Probably built by Llywelyn ab Iorwerth ('the Great') early in the thirteenth century, the castle is dominated by a massive round-towered keep, still standing up to 50 feet (15.2m) high.

Dolwyddelan Castle, Dolwyddelan

Dolwyddelan is traditionally the birthplace of Llywelyn ap Iorwerth, though the actual site was perhaps the vanished castle of the rocky knoll in the valley floor (above). There is no evidence for any building at the present castle site earlier than the early 13th century, when the area came under Llywelyn's control. The site covers two routes into Snowdonia, and admirably demonstrates Llywelyn's scheme of defence and control.

Electric Mountain

On the shore of Llyn Padarn Electric Mountain marks the starting point for tours into Dinorwig Hydro Electric Power Station. Deep in Elidir mountain is one of Europes largest man made caverns, home to a pumped storage generator which converts the power of water into electricity. The Visitor Centre is also home to 'The Den' soft play area, an excellent cafe and gift shop and also has gallery space displaying the work of local artists.
